Saltwater Fishing at Cape Lookout - Capt. Chris Siess
Saltwater Fishing at Cape Lookout - Capt. Chris Siess

February 12th, Tuesday @ 7pm Leonard Recreation Center - Capt. Chris Siess has been fly fishing and tying flies for over twenty years, picking up the long rod in middle school to chase bass in Virginia farm ponds near his childhood home. In 2009 he began his guiding career in Aspen, Colorado, working full time on the Roaring Fork River and exploring numerous other waterways around the state.

In 2012, Chris returned to Virginia and started his own guiding and tying business, Knot the Reel World Fly Fishing , focusing on the multiple fishing opportunities across the Old Dominion. Today he travels often across the country in search of new waters and actively guides for Smallmouth Bass on the New River, Striped Bass in the Chesapeake Bay and Redfish on the coast of North Carolina. Over the past five years, Chris has become enamored with Redfish and if he is not guiding or tying, can be found in his kayak on knee deep flats, throwing flies to tailing fish.

Chris will be discussing Redfish behaviors, tactics and flies for shallow water pursuit, specifically focusing on the Carolina coast. You can find more information on his website, , Facebook page or on his Instagram account, @knotthereelworld. ** Chris is donating flies which will be raffled at the meeting.

March 16th , Saturday - Special offer for Women - Linda Heller is conducting a casting class for a group of women in Winston-Salem and they have extended the offer to women in our club. It will be at a farm pond in Germanton from 1:00-3:00 pm. The class is limited to 8 and the cost is $60. A second date if needed will be March 23rd. If you are not familiar with Linda she is an excellent caster and instructor. Linda partners with Bob Clouser taking clients fishing all over the world.

April 13th , Saturday - The Boy Scouts have asked if we would set up a fly fishing booth at their spring Conclave at Camp Durant from 9am until 2pm. The address is 4637 Old Carthage Rd., Carthage, NC 28327 which is little more than an hour south of Greensboro. They will provide a box lunch. We will need at least 4-5 volunteers, and like prior conclaves we will do tying demo's and an introduction to casting. The casting is just an introduction, so we are just teaching the basics. Please contact Laura Kennerly as soon as possible if you are interested in helping.
