Smith River Trout Unlimited (SRTU) will host their end of year meeting on December 1, 2016, 6:30 p.m., at Rania's Restaurant , 147 Main St, Martinsville VA . This is the meeting where George Palmer, DGIF Fisheries Biologist gives his annual "Health of the Smith River Fishery" presentation. Water flows have been messed up due to work at Philpott Dam but DGIF has been sampling using a newly acquired raft and finding some nice fish. No one knows for sure what the prolonged flows and increased sediment has done to the fishery but George is optimistic and will share his thoughts on what 2017 may look like.Other business to wrap up 2016:

Tuesday Meeting- 7pm Roy Davidson w/ Project Healing Waters of W-S
June 14th, Tuesday @ 7pm Leonard Recreation Center - Roy Davidson & Ron Zambor with Project Healing Waters of W-S will tell us about how the Blue Ridge Chapter has gotten involved with a program called Project Healing Waters by Alan Folger of NCTU in Asheville, and a young veteran who had served 5 tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan before being disabled by an exploding roadside bomb. BRTU learned so much from their interaction with Mr. Folger and Mr. Ladd, and found a real connection as the skills we have developed as fly fishermen could be directed at helping to improve the mental health of these disabled veterans. An opportunity they could not turn their backs on. Their objective in this presentation is to share what they learned about Project Healing Waters, and the success they have had with the Winston-Salem PHW Program.
**We will also have an update on the Smith River outlook for the remaining year.

Trout Unlimited Southeast Regional Meeting in Gatlinburg, TN on April 21-23, 2017.
I am John Reinhardt, president of the Great Smoky Mountain TU Chapter #047 and co-chair of the upcoming Trout Unlimited Southeast Regional Meeting in Gatlinburg , TN on April 21-23, 2017.
The event will be held at the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg, just a 1/4 mile from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park .
We want to invite and welcome you to what we hope to be one of the best Regionals ever! We wanted to let our fellow TU members and friends aware that Gatlinburg is open and welcoming visitors. Yes there was property damage and personal losses but there was no damage to our host hotel, the Glenstone Lodge.
I have been in the park fishng the last two weeks and most fire damage in the park is limited to mainly underbrush. The trees are still standing and by spring the regrowth of the undergrowth like rhododendron will be underway. Fishing for wild trout in the park will be a part of this event and we are looking forward to you joining us on a mountain stream!
Below I have placed a link to a website exclusively for the event. It will provide information on the area and updates as we countdown to April 21st, 2017. TU National will soon be starting registration and sending emails to all the Southeast TU chapters. Please note our sponsors page and if you have a particular sponsor who would like to take part and have exposure to over 100 plus expected attendees, please let me know and we will be happy to contact and provide information to them.
Again, thanks for your time and we look forward to sharing "" Spring time in the Smokies" with you and your chapter members !Thanks,
